The twist is a short film's secret weapon. With so little time on the clock, a good short can set you up and pull the rug in the same breath, and the best of them make you want to start again to see how it was done. These films are hand-picked, complete, and free to watch. No cheap gotchas, just endings that re-frame everything before them.
For a clean snap of the unexpected, Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times follows two men across five encounters that keep rearranging what you think you understand, and Vessel tightens around a young disabled girl breaking free of her religious mother. Shame On You haunts a young outcast with a tormenting double of himself, while Tea For Two sends two meddling tea-shop owners after exactly the wrong guests.
The best short films with a twist trust you to keep up. Shadow Boxer follows one man's fight to step out of his father's shadow, and Wendy & Vee watches a daughter decide to do something about her mother's abusive boyfriend. Every film here was chosen by our editors and streams free in all 193 countries, with no subscription. Press play, and do not blink.
