Crime shorts get to the body faster

Crime is built on consequence, and the short film is ruthless about getting there. No slow procedural build, no three episodes before the first real move. The best crime shorts drop you in close to the wound and let the moral weather do the rest. It is a genre of pressure, and pressure is something the short form applies expertly.

The range across these is wide, from the procedural to the genuinely strange. Touch calls a psychic to a homicide scene. True Value hands a student an unusually deadly part-time job, and Struck returns a female jogger to the scene of a crime in search of closure. Wendy & Vee follows a daughter deciding to do something about her mother's abusive boyfriend, The Number reads the myths and markings of prison gangs as documentary, and Viskar I Vinden sets a forensic investigator the unlikely task of communicating with a farting corpse.

From the brutal to the absurd, the whole spectrum is here to watch for nothing.
