Noir was always a short story at heart

Noir runs on mood, fatalism and the certainty that nobody gets out clean, and none of that needs two hours to take hold. The short form might be its truest home. A pool of light, a bad decision, a debt that comes due. The best noir shorts know the genre is a feeling more than a plot, and they let the shadows do the talking.

You can see the tradition reshaped across these. Billie sits at a poker table dreaming of revenge. Fugue drops survival into a city of outlaws where you live only by vanishing, and Mascagni' Symphony ♑ Inno all'Infamia sets two criminals against their own demons in a lawless, unforgiving world. True Value turns a student's part-time job unusually deadly, while A Street Cat Named Desire ensnares a tourist in a world of sex, drugs and cats.

Six films, all shadow and consequence, all yours to watch without paying a thing.
