Short films that carry the weight of the past

A historical short film makes a distant time feel close enough to touch. The mood here is hushed and elegiac, voices and faces pulled out of war and old myth. Hymn of Hate sets Russell Tovey and Thomas Turgoose in the trenches of the First World War, and Hawker tells the true story of WW1 fighter pilots at the very dawn of aerial combat.

The past reaches further back and wider still. Deserteurs forces two enemies to stay human in inhuman times, while IPSA draws on an ancient Indian tale of a wife whose infertility drives her to seek out a sage. Four short films, no subscription, free to watch from anywhere.
