An aging grandfather struggles to provide stability for his abandoned grandson, seeking a permanent solution.
Comment from our wonderful first-time filmmaker Keeley:
“I made this film to challenge myself and to see if I was able to write, direct and produce a film myself. I also wasn’t sure I could do it and for years had put a huge barrier up and telling everyone I can’t do it. Then one day I told myself maybe I can. (Comment by Klipist: YES YOU CAN!)
This film really is of the moment with what is going on currently within social care. There are currently around 180,000 children in the UK cared for by family members, which is at an all time high. It’s a system on the edge, family members, like the character ‘Granddad Ted’ in my short, having to make life-changing decisions when the UK teeters on the brink of a recession and living costs continue to rise. This really shouldn’t be at the forefront of family’s minds but it is.
There is such lack of financial support and these are real people who are forced to give up secure jobs and spend their life-savings and rely on state pensions to keep their vulnerable grandchildren within the family group.”
Directed by Keeley Gainey.
